*STEM Instructor *
Job Description
*Position: *The primary responsibilities of the Afterschool STEM Instructor are to develop fun, inquiry-based and enriching activities for youth (K-8th grade) in order to encourage academic success STEM exposure, engagement and experience.
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Hudson County (BGCHC) program combines recreation and hands on learning to support youth development.
It is designed to complement academic instruction provided in the classroom setting.
This program is also a safe haven for children.
An ideal candidate would be organized, dedicated to the academic and social enrichment of youth and familiar with NJ State
Licensing procedures.
This position works closely with other BGCHC staff, parents, volunteers, interns and other community partners.
*Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:*
* Responsible for overseeing tutoring and homework assistance (Power Hour).
* Responsible for preparing daily lesson plans in detail to include inquiry-based STEM activities to include computer science experiments, biology, engineering, chemistry, environmental science and other related-areas.
* Provide support for program participants.
* Facilitate academic skill-building activities-based projects.
* Give and clearly explain instructions for all experiments/activities.
* Facilitate engaging enrichment, verbal and physical activity with participants.
* Actively supervise and ensure member safety at all times.
* Maintains positive and professional relationships with program participants.
* Responsible for creating a welcoming and youth friendly classroom space.
* Attends regular staff planning and/or evaluation meetings.
* Oversees volunteers, interns and assistants in the classroom.
* Attends trainings to maintain the mandatory annual 10 clock hours of child care training.
* Maintains accurate records of programming to include daily attendance and activity lesson plans.
* Maintains inventory of program supplies and equipment.
* Ensures compliance with all NJ State licensure rules and regulations.
* Communicates program needs continuously with Unit Director or other designated staff person.
* Maintains cleanliness and safety in classrooms.
* Assists with school pickups as needed.
* Other duties as assigned.
*Preferred Experience and Qualifications:*
* Bachelor’s degree preferred, preferably in education, science, or related major.
* At least 1 year experience working with school age youth.
* Knowledge of field concepts, practices and principles related to program planning and implementation.
