The After School Teen Recreation Specialist (006) will be responsible for organizing and promoting activities, such as arts and crafts, sports, games, music, dramatics, social recreation, camping, and hobbies, taking into account the needs and interests of individual members.
We are offering an exciting opportunity for an After School Teen Recreation Specialist at our Navy Yard Clubhouse (006) located in Brooklyn, NY.
This is a part-time position working up to 25 hours a week Monday through Friday in the afternoon.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Enforce rules and regulations of recreational facilities to maintain discipline and ensure safety.
Assist in organizing, leading, and promoting interest in recreational activities, such as arts, crafts, sports, games, camping, and hobbies.
Greet new arrivals to activities, introducing them to other participants, explaining facility rules, and encouraging participation.
Explain principles, techniques, and safety procedures to participants in recreational activities and demonstrate use of materials and equipment.
Required Skills/Knowledge:
A high school diploma is required, some college experience is preferred and at least 1 year of experience in youth development
Demonstrated ability to plan, conduct and supervise recreational/leadership programs and services
Ability to communicate effectively with young people from diverse backgrounds, ages 6-18 as well as a range of other organizational personnel in a courteous and professional manner
Must be highly motivated and dedicated to the organizational mission
Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential
