*ROLE OVERVIEW * As a Controller, you will be responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the company and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting.
You will work closely with senior management to provide financial insights and strategic guidance to support decision-making.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting, financial management, and leadership skills.
Relay plans to do 3 to 4 acquisitions/year of companies in the sprinkler installation and/or fire alarm business.
The company is currently comprised of 3 recently acquired businesses in Boston, Baltimore and New York.
The accounting function will continue to be built out as companies are acquired.
This is a great growth opportunity as the company grows.
CPA Preferred.
Minimum of 10 years’ experience is required.
*WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING * · Oversee day-to-day accounting (including AP, AR, Payroll), ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and adherence to relevant accounting principles and standards · Oversee month end closing process and preparation of financial statements adhering to deadlines.
· Establish and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets, ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, and mitigate financial risks.
· Coordinate and oversee tax planning and compliance activities, including income tax filings, sales tax, and other regulatory filings.
· Manage relationships with external auditors and coordinate annual financial audits and reviews.
· Determine accounting treatment and financial implications of complex transactions (IE: purchase accounting) with the CFO and outside accounting firm · Oversee the implementation and optimization of financial systems and processes to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
· Build up accounting team, and provide leadership, mentorship, and development opportunities.
*QUALIFICATIONS * · Minimum 10+ years of accounting experience, including 3+ years of experience in audit and 3+ years as a Controller · Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA certification preferred.
· Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
· Ability to work independently and meet deadlines · Strong technical accounting acumen and well-versed in revenue recognition principles (ASC 606, ASC 842, GAAP) · Proficiency in financial software and ERP systems (e.
g.
, Sage Intacct).
· Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
· Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams.
· Leadership experience and the ability to motivate and develop a team.
· Attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting · Strong organizational and time management skills *IDEAL QUALITIES * Experience working with smaller privately owned companies would be a plus particularly if this person has helped upgrade their accounting systems and processes.
Preferred candidates will have worked in life safety or construction industries.
*WORKING CONDITIONS * This will be a hybrid role based out of the Philadelphia or Newark areas with travel to Baltimore and other offices as needed.
