AFHU is looking for an Accounting Manager –with public accounting and ideally with nonprofit experience.
The person in this role will report directly to the COO/CFO and will oversee a staff of 2, a Lead Senior Accountant and Senior Accountant.
The Accounting Manager will act as primary point of contact for all inquiries from AFHU departments, regional offices, vendors, and external auditors/regulators.
This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated, hands-on individual to work directly with all levels of leadership within AFHU.
This is a hybrid position (based out of downtown office).
Responsibilities:
Oversee a staff of 2 accountants.
Manage the month-end closing activities including but not limited to review and analysis of income statement, balance sheet accounts, and review and approval of all journal entries.
Oversee key financial processes and/or reporting for the following functions: accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, investment accounting, cash management and banking, fixed asset accounting, and grant accounting.
Oversee the preparation of AFHU’s annual tax returns and certain annual surveys.
Manage the development of the operating budget, analyze variances, oversee forecasting, and work closely with senior staff to ensure budget goals are met.
Serve as liaison with the external auditors and manage the financial statement, 403(B) and IT audit processes effectively to ensure accurate and timely completion.
Act as primary point of contact for all day-to-day inquiries for the accounting and finance department.
Partner with the COO/CFO:
with technical research and guidance as complex accounting transactions occur.
to analyze business processes and performance metrics to promote efficient and effective practices while fostering a culture of excellence and continuous learning.
Provide leadership to a customer service-oriented department by emphasizing timeliness, reliability, and collaboration.
Work closely with all external partners including third-party vendors and consultants.
Ad hoc projects and other related duties as necessary.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required.
CPA license or on track for licensure.
4+ years of public accounting or nonprofit experience
Excellent oral and written communication skills with highly developed interpersonal skills
Proven ability to lead, motivate, and inspire team members.
Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
Strong technical accounting understanding (solid grasp of debits/credits and general ledger account reconciliations)
Solid computer skills including MS Office Suite, Excel proficient (VLookups and Pivot tables)

Annual Salary: $115,000-$125,000
